Just Three More Chances To See A Very Nosedive Christmas Carol

Well, gang. Before we all go our separate ways for the obligatory holidays, I figured I’d do one final reminder: there are THREE MORE CHANCES to see Nosedive Productions’ attempt at delivering holiday cheer with A Very Nosedive Christmas Carol.

It goes up this Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 11 p.m. at the Red Room on 85 East 4th Street.

The space is small. The show is good.

Get your tickets here.

Go see it. You’ll be glad you did.

Then go out drinking with us. You’ll be on the fence with that decision for a while.

In the mood for eggnog,

James "Blitzen" Comtois

Final Week

Well, this is not only the final week for A Very Nosedive Christmas Carol (which means you should get your tickets ASAP), but also my final week for the year at my day job (several vacation days that can't be rolled over to 2008 means an extended holiday break).

This of course means I have this week to finish writing episode four of Pinkie (after having my fifth cup of coffee for the day, I think I can do it).

I have to say, I'm pretty happy with the latest version of Christmas Carol and am enjoying what Pete and the cast has brought to the table. Though, who knows? Maybe that's just the spiked 'nog talking. (I kid, I kid! Seriously, guys. It looks great.)

In 2008, I'm hoping to offer my "Top Ten" list for 2007, despite missing some very hot-ticket items throughout the course of the year (but then again, I always end up missing some "Must See" shows every year). It's more or less in its final form, especially since it looks as though I'll probably be seeing only one more show this year.

Anyway, the Red Room is a small theatre and we just have three more shows left, so you should get your tickets soon.

A Class Five Full Roaming Vapor,

James "Slimer" Comtois

Closing Down The Year, Seeing Short Shows

I've definitely wanted to add to this entry that Isaac wrote (on top of our private talk about this issue), but of course (as you all are all-too-aware), my brain has not allowed me to write any blog entries longer than 300 words. Perhaps in January I'll be able to expand on the subject and offer my angle, ideas and prejudices on the subject. In the meanwhile, I suggest you read it and Leonard Jacobs' excellent response here.

This past weekend, after performing episode three of Pinkie at Vampire Cowboys' Saturday Night Saloon (where I defended my title as Paraphrase King), I attended the Monarch Theater’s One-Minute Play Festival at the Brick Theater, which featured plays written by (including many, many others) Mac Rogers, Qui Nguyen, Adam Szymkowicz, Trav S.D., Mike Daisey, Clay McLeod Chapman, Ashlin Halfnight, Jason Grote and Yours Truly, directed by (among others) Isaac Butler and Brick co-founder Michael Gardner, and featuring (again, among many others) Nosedive vets Anna Kull and Michael Criscuolo.

Although the evening treaded closely to Theatre Overload (there were nearly 90 plays on the bill), it was a very fun time. I was very pleased with how my play, "Relationships," turned out. (Mac, who was in attendance, asked if the tissue-eating was in the script. I told him it most certainly was.)

And the good thing about plays that last only a minute: if they suck, you only have to sit through them for a few seconds before they’re over.

Anyway, as you probably all know, our version of Dickens' immortal classic opens tomorrow night at 11 p.m. at the Red Room. We'll be serving eggnog and making you laugh.

Hope to see you soon.

Your elf,

James "Stocking Stuffer" Comtois

A Very Nosedive Christmas Carol Opens in Seven Days

Hello, elves and elvettes. Little Jimmy Comtois, bronze winner of the Little Jimmy Comtois Look-a-Like Contest, here to remind you that Nosedive's contribution to holiday cheer and merriment, A Very Nosedive Christmas Carol, opens in seven days at the Red Room on 85 East 4th Street.

It only runs for six performances (Thursdays through Saturdays from Dec. 6 through Dec. 15) and all the shows are at 11 p.m. That's right; we’re once again offering "After Hours" merriment.

And yes, we will once again be serving eggnog (both "jolly" and "extra-jolly").

And no, Tiny Tim has not been recast.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for kids. Space is limited, so you should get them soon.

Your problem child,

James “Blitzer” Comtois

Due to both popular demand and the exorbitant amount of fun the company had staging it in years past, Nosedive Productions is re-helming their version of A Christmas Carol at a new venue and a new time.

Writer James Comtois and director Pete Boisvert's version of the Dickensian classic opens on the ghost of Jacob Marley lamenting his fate at having to teach Scrooge the same lesson, year after year, and of having to tell the same story to audiences year after year. The spirits haunting Scrooge have done this countless times, every Christmas, over and over again — and they’re tired. So, the ghosts may be a little late this year. Hey, they have auditions to go to.

A Very Nosedive Christmas Carol will be performed at the Horse Trade Red Room, (85 East 4th Street at 2nd Ave.) December 6-8 & 13-15 (Thursday through Saturday). All shows are at 11 p.m., tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for children. 6 train to Astor Place; L train to 1st Avenue; or F, V train to 2nd Avenue Stations. For tickets call 212-352-3101 or visit TheaterMania.com.
