Penultimate Speed Demons Episode Coming Up

We're almost done rehearsing the fourth episode of Speed Demons, which goes up this Saturday at the Vampire Cowboys' Saturday Night Saloon, a consistently fun time for all. I've fortunately only given myself seven lines this time 'round (eight if you count an indignant grunt), most of them being, "What?" Yeah, no more multiple-page monologues for me: I learned my lesson after Pinkie.

This time around, Patrick Shearer has taken the reigns as director, and doing a very fine job. For me, it's been very fun having a different director on board for each episode, seeing how they deal with the material, and making it both their own thing and consistent with the overall tone and style of the serial. And I also enjoy seeing which music the directors pick for each episode.

Since the final episode goes up almost immediately after most folks recover from their New Year's Eve hangovers, I need to write the damn thing by the end of this week. And fortunately, that looks as though that’ll be it for my on-stage writing assignments for the year (even though I have about a half dozen other items on my "Writing To-Do" list, I just don’t need to finish them until January or February).

Is it really December already? Hot damn. Really feels like only a couple weeks ago the folks in Nosedive Central were burying me up to my neck in sand at the beach on the 4th of July. Ah, how time freakin' flies, people.

Anyway, I hope to see you fuckers at this Saturday’s Saloon, or join me in seeing this the following weekend.

James "Math Pun King" Comtois

Happy Halloween!

Just a reminder, if you've already seen our show, or are planning on coming on Saturday, or simply like theatre but don't like Nosedive, might I point Mr. Clay McLeod Chapman's brilliant Pumpkin Pie Show, in your direction? It's at UNDER St. Marks Theater on 94 St. Marks Place (between 1st Ave and Ave A).

You can get $12.50 discounted tickets or 2 tickets for $25 by going online and using the password NOSEDIV.

I'm very sad that I'll be missing this installment of Mr. Chapman's show, which is always a fun time. He's a true original that you don't want to miss.

And also, let's not forget, let's NOT forget, that tomorrow, we've got this happening:

Going full tilt,

Wrapping Up The Week

Bah! Sorry, folks. I haven't had a chance to finish those horror entries or write any substantial posts for a couple days. I've been absolutely swamped with Blood Brothers stuff that's taken a good portion of my time. The good news is that our first stumble-through of the show looked pretty damn good. The bad news is we've still got a lot of work to do.

We've still got time. We've still got time. We've still got time.

This weekend we've got rehearsals for episode two of Speed Demons, our serial 1960s-drag-race-demonic-possession play.

Fortunately, I've only given myself three lines in this one. Unfortunately, I've got a lot of fighting to do in it. One of these days I'll learn I swear.

Anyway, have a good weekend, folks. I'll be back to natter at you on Monday.

Repeating his mantra,

James "We've Still Got Time" Comtois

Photos From The Grand Saloon

So, the first round of episodes for Vampire Cowboys' Saturday Night Saloon took place this weekend and I gotta say, what a blast. Despite the weather being monsoon-style, there was a huge turnout (people were poking their heads in the door because they couldn't fit in the space). And all of the pieces were great.

Hell, Webb Wilcoxen wrote and staged a musical. And I don't mean a show with some piano accompaniment and a handful of solos, I mean a full-on musical with overlapping melodies and recurring motifs!

It seems as though everyone involved from last year stepped up their games, and the audience appeared to truly dig it.

I'm also glad that our entry, Speed Demons, seemed to play like gangbusters. All in all, I have an absolute blast doing this series. Seeing the folks from the last time 'round feels damn near like summer camp reunion. I can't wait to continue doing this.

For those of you who couldn't check it out, here are some photos from our entry, Speed Demons. With a little luck, we'll post the video for it soon.
In addition, here are some photos from all of the shows.

A grease monkey,

This Saturday: Speed Demons, Episode One

This Saturday at the Vampire Cowboys' Saturday Night Saloon, Nosedive Productions unveils Episode One of Speed Demons, our five-part 1960s-Road-Trip-Meets-Faustian-Tragedy.

Or, to be prosaic, in Speed Demons, Johnny-George Fisticuffs races from Chicago to California in Lucille (his souped-up Bucket-T) while the devil chases after him in his own hot rod.

The show is free, but if you want to pay $5, you can drink a whole lotta beer.

See you there, cats & kittens.

Your post-show depression,

James "Bouncybear" Comtois

Revvin' the Engines

We're locking down the cast for The Blood Brothers Present...The Master of Horror and waiting for King's people to approve the press release, so once both of those things are confirmed, we'll be releasing both.

I'm heading off to Maine yet again for Labor Day weekend to attend my cousin Vance's wedding and returning just in time to start rehearsals for the pilot episode of Speed Demons, Nosedive's contribution to Vampire Cowboys' Saturday Night Saloon, which opens Saturday, September 6.

Speed Demons is my attempt to combine the 1960s Go-Go Road Trip movie with the Faustian tragedy. Or, to be more prosaic, it's about a greaser driving cross-country in his hot rod while the devil chases after him in his jalopy. It should be a fun time.

In addition to Speed Demons featuring Christopher Yustin, Leah Carrell and Daryl Lathon, as was the case with last year's serial, Pinkie, I'll be acting in this one as well. This time, however, I will not be the lead (to be blunt, I'm too damn old and chubby to be a hot young greaser, thank you very much).

Your soda poop,

James "Fizzyshits" Comtois
